General Server Rules
You must read all the rules and understand them before entering the server. Claiming ignorance to the rules listed here is not an acceptable excuse when confronted with them.
Sanctuary RP’s primary goal is to provide a fun, healthy, serious role-play environment for all who decide to join. You are expected to conduct yourself OOCly and ICly with a certain amount of respect for yourself and for others.
While we welcome people from all around the world, this is an English speaking server and, unless you are role playing as a character who sometimes references or speaks in their native tongue, you are expected to communicate in English at all times.
Treat everyone with respect. No harassment, witch hunting, sexism, racism, or hate speech will be tolerated.
Harassment/Toxicity of community members does not stop with the Discord server. If you harass a member of the community in other outlets (Twitch, Twitter, Instagram, etc.) you may be subject to disciplinary action.
Impersonation of staff, whether malicious or not, is unacceptable and not allowed.
Impersonation of another member of the community, whether malicious or not, is unacceptable and is not allowed.
Everyone has opinions and beliefs, nor is any one opinion or belief every right or wrong. Some of those opinions and beliefs lead to toxic conversations. SRP is not a place to discuss the following topics, simply for means of preventing arguments.
Religion
Politics
Sexuality
No advertising will be allowed within the game or Discord server without prior approval from an Admin. Saying “Shameless Plug” does not make you exempt from this.
No NSFW or obscene content. Yes this is an 18+ server but many do not wish to have these things shoved in front of their eyes. This includes text, images, or links featuring nudity, sex, brutal violence, or other graphically disturbing content.
No drugs / paraphernalia may be shared/displayed in the SRP Discord server. Though many things are becoming legal, they are not legal everywhere, therefore it is best to not allow it for anyone as SRP does not condone breaking laws IRL.
If you ever have a question, or encounter something that makes you feel unsafe or uncomfortable, REPORT IT. Staff is here to make sure everyone enjoys their time in SRP. If you do not report it, we cannot address the problem.
There is no such thing as a dumb ticket
You must have your Discord Server Profile name set to your character’s IC name. This is for the purpose of contacting you if we need to.
Members of staff are the only exception to this rule as to avoid people acting differently around staff ICly.
Never message staff directly unless instructed to by that specific staff member. Create a ticket.
Do your best to avoid blasting copyrighted music in areas other than in established clubs and approved venues. The community has a healthy collective of streamers that may run into issues if copyrighted music is played on their streams. Please be respectful to them.
Personal disputes are personal. It is not the staff’s responsibility to oversee OOC personal disputes unless they concern the server.
Staff has been selected and trained to treat everyone with respect. Constructive criticism is welcome, but remember how you deliver it should be done with respect. Harassment and rude behavior towards members of staff may be cause for disciplinary action.
Role play over Rule Play - The creators of Sanctuary RP created the server with a serious role play environment in mind. We expect everyone to act within the rules that are laid out in this document and that are announced. With that said, there are often “gray” areas where a scene may transpire where the role play edges or even slightly crosses the line beyond the governed rules. When this is the case, the scene is expected to be carried out and if there is a problem, a ticket is to be created and the SRP staff will decide if the rule break will be enforced based upon how it affected the scene in question.
Role Play over Gun Play - Sanctuary RP is a serious role play server. The point of role play should be to build long lasting stories. When you choose to pull out a gun and shoot someone, it is seen as you are ending the scene right there, and possibly ending that person’s life. Guns being fired should be a last resort as they bring an end to the scene and possibly the entire storyline.
Metagaming - Taking information/knowledge obtained OOCly and applying it ICly.
This can be, but is not limited to: Character locations, points of interest, background on characters, events that happened that you did not witness, third-party communications.
Powergaming - Abusing mechanics to gain an unfair advantage.
This can be, but is not limited to: Animation canceling so you can move when you are not supposed to, utilizing macros to perform actions quicker or more frequently than if you were to do them manually, continuously looting test drive cars for
money, performing an action towards another player with zero chance for them to respond, talking on the radio or phone while you are in handcuffs.
This also includes the abuse of vehicle mechanics (Bullet resistant windows, drift cars/tires that allow cars to go at excessive speeds). These vehicles have been able to remain in the server for those that wish to use them for their intended use. If you are seen blatantly abusing these mechanics to gain an unfair advantage the vehicle will be repo’d and no refund will be given as compensation. Do not ruin these things for others.
Abuse of Mechanics - Finding something in the server that is not broken functionally, but is clearly not in tune with how other things are tuned
This can be, but is not limited to: Finding a job that pays a great deal more than every other job and instead of reporting it to staff you do it over and over for self gain or share it with friends for their gains.
Exploiting - Similar to Powergaming but doing something that is clearly not intended.
This can be, but is not limited to: Damaging vehicle fenders so that cars can go faster than intended, discovering ways to duplicate items and not reporting it.
If any of these things happen once and you discover it and report it and do not do it again, it is not considered exploiting. If you discover it and do not report it and then continue to utilize it, it is then considered exploiting.
RDM (Random Deathmatching) - Carrying out a violent act towards somebody without any form of role play prior.
This can be, but is not limited to: Attacking someone for no reason, attacking someone without announcing yourself, randomly attacking locals for no reason.
VDM (Vehicle Deathmatching) - Similar to RDM but when utilizing a vehicle as a weapon.
This can be, but is not limited to: Driving across a busy sidewalk, intentionally ramming into cars with no reason.
It is not considered VDM if you run someone over when in the middle of a conflict and they are blocking your route of exit, though if you consistently keep trying to hit them when they are on foot, it can be considered VDM.
NLR (New Life Rule) - When a character is injured and put into a downed state. If the character does not receive medical assistance and instead opts to revive (respawn) then they must forget the prior 30 minutes of RP leading up to them being injured as well as any events that may have led to them being injured.
Scripted RP - If your scripted RP scenario directly involves people who are not part of it that is disallowed. It can make the scenario feel like there’s meta going on or ruin the immersion for the people around not included
Hostages - Hostages can not just be your friends being a hostage for you. Finding a hostage must be grabbing a random person or someone you know but isn't expecting it. No planned hostages.
FailRP - This refers to doing things that are beyond unrealistic and/or carrying yourself in a manner that is below any form of acceptable standard of role play.
This can be, but is not limited to: Jumping from heights that are absurd that would without question result in critical or even fatal injury, being injured in an extreme
way and returning to role play after being treated and acting as if you are not injured at all (Getting shot then as soon as you’re treated you’re right out looking to shoot people).
Fear for Life/Freedom - This refers to the rule in which you should fear for your life/freedom when you are in jeopardy. This also applies to if one of your acquaintances is in danger, you should be acting as if their life could end if you do not comply.
This can be, but is not limited to: Being held at gunpoint and refusing to comply with the demands, being outnumbered by more than one in a group setting and refusing to comply, committing crimes directly in front of cops, chain robbing stores with no regard of the consequences of getting caught. Basically, do not act like your character will live no matter what, role play your character as if they only have one life to live and it can end in that situation.
Permadeath - Your character has been killed and has no way of coming back. THIS SHOULD NOT BE TAKEN LIGHTLY. Once you pronounce that your character has been perma’d through RP means, the
character, its assets and everything tied to it will be frozen. The assets will be deleted unless a standing in-character, court approved will, has been put in place.
When you decide to perma your character, your new character may not be associated with your old character. Your new character may not be a repeat of your old character and must be different in some way.
In special cases, where staff approves it prior to creation, where perhaps you decide to play your long lost child or something of your character that has been deceased, you will not be able to receive any of the assets from your original character and if you are found carrying information from your original character then this character will be shutdown immediately.
THIS MUST BE STAFF APPROVED BEFORE EVEN BEING CREATED
Extreme/Grotesque RP - Role play that involves graphic scenes that may make others feel uncomfortable to partake in or witness.
This can be, but is not limited to: Extreme brutality of a hostage, torture, mutalation. It is required that you get the other party’s consent through a /me consent to torture etc
Green Zones - There are certain areas that are designated as “Green Zones” where violence, robbing and kidnapping are not permitted.
The Main Hospital (Currently Oceanside Hospital) and Diamond Casino
If someone flees to this area after engaging with you, you should stage a perimeter and wait for them to leave the green zone’s grounds before
engaging them. You are not permitted to follow someone inside and continue violence inside of the Green Zone.
Diamond casino is only a safe zone from robbing people randomly. Violent acts are still allowed and you may defend your self or go after somehow with how you see fit while in casino.
It is recommended to keep a screen capture software running at all times so that if you witness a rule break you can report it with evidence supporting the break.
You can do /ids to view player’s ID number in the server which greatly helps with identifying people you are reporting
General IC Rules
Sanctuary RP will likely not be your first role play server. Do not bring any IC beef over from another server unless it is fully agreed upon between the two parties involved.
Also, do not just immediately assume because you knew someone in another city that they will “remember” you here. Some people choose to reset their characters when they start on a new server. Be respectful of that.
You are to remain in-character at all times when you are on the server. If there is a bug, issue, or anything of that sort, open a ticket and contact staff once the scene has concluded.
At no point should you self-govern and stop a scene in the middle of it because you feel you have been wronged one way or another.
Talking about things about your RL by saying something like, “Spiritually I…” is a form of mixing and should not be done at all.
Example: Rather than saying, “Be right back” when you need to go AFK say “I need to think about something real quick” and walk off and /e smoke or something
Actions breed consequences. Role play is not just about your character carrying out a predetermined story. Just because a situation did not go your way does not give you grounds to cry foul. Adjust. Adapt. Overcome.
If you play multiple characters, they may not be related or have any “interaction.”
If you are found using knowledge from one character on another character it will be considered metagaming.
When injured, you are expected to seek the help of a trained professional IC. Trying to circumvent EMS when there are EMS on-duty by just running to Nancy will be seen as FailRP.
You can do /311 to make a medical call.
If you make a /311 call and do not receive a response after 10-15 minutes, you may respawn, as long as there is no active scene going on and no one is interacting with you.
Do not call /311 in the middle of an active shootout if you are involved in the shootout and down. Let the scene finish. Before seeking medical attention.
If you are injured to a point where you go to the hospital, you should role play your injuries.
If you go in with a broken leg, don’t just run right out the door, hop on a motorcycle and speed off.
It is a safe measure, depending on the severity of your injury, to allow for at least two full day cycles of in game time before engaging in physically demanding RP (Two RL Hours)
You are more than welcome, and even encouraged, to role play your injuries as severely as you want to, but do not ignore your injuries as that is FailRP.
/me and /do are factual IC statements. You cannot lie when responding to a /me or /do or it will be considered powergaming.
Example: If footage is being reviewed between a detective and a suspect, if the detective says /do “Would I see you enter the store” you would need to be honest in your response.
IC Rules Associated With Crime
As stated previously, Sanctuary Role Play is a serious RP server. We strongly enforce a role play over gun play stance. If you are found to be consistently provoking shoot outs rather than seeking to further role play, there may be disciplinary action taken.
When you have a gun on you, you are expected to comply with demands. This is in accordance with the Fear For Life rule. This rule is not only applicable when a gun is pointed at you but when you’re typically outnumbered by more than a 2:1 ratio. (If there are five of them and two of you, you should understand that you are at such a disadvantage that you should be afraid and hope just to get out of the situation alive.)
If a person turns their back to you or puts their gun down, you can utilize this opening, if you see fit, to try to turn the situation in your favor but still be reasonable and smart about it.
There is no situation in which you should be “Chain-robbing” stores or banks or anything like that. You should be fearing for your freedom and acting so recklessly would be considered FailRP and complete disregard for your freedom.
This is a role play server. The goal of a role play server is to interact with others. When you rob somewhere, you should wait for a police response. The following times are what are expected of someone to wait for a police response.
House robberies and player to player crimes: No wait time
ATMs: 3 minute wait time for police response
All other scripted jobs: 5 minute wait time for police response.
Pocket Wiping - Clearing unnecessary items from someone’s pockets during a robbery, beyond anything that has good reason to be stolen.
These items can be, but are not limited to: Food, Drinks, work items, non-illegal tools or tools under $5,000 in value.
Do not do this, just don’t. If you are robbing someone for their gun and ammo, take their gun and ammo. There is no reason to be taking everything in their pockets.
Body Dumping - Dropping a body in an unretrievable location after you have murdered them so that they cannot be reached to receive medical care.
Places that apply can be, but are not limited to: Water depths that would put anyone rescuing the person underwater, holes that someone would not be able to get out of when rescuing someone, locked locations that cannot be accessed by others.
When someone “sees the light” they are held subject to the NLR. When you do this to a person it immediately kills any story that can come from the scene that led to this. Always make sure that a person is capable of being retrieved when you leave their body.
Revenge - When you are shot and injured by someone, do not just go right back after the person who robbed you. You are injured. Either wait out your injury or have someone who is more able bodied handle it. If you do this after having to “see the light” you will be found to be breaking the NLR. You may not re-attack that group until 1 hour has passed.
Do not repeatedly rob/kill someone to send a message. Remember, when you pull the trigger to shoot someone, you must assume that that person may die and whatever message you are trying to send will be lost. This is harassment.
You must have reason to attack someone in-character. If you do not have reason to attack them, it is considered RDM.
You must announce yourself when you are attacking someone, even in a drive-by like situation. Typically allow for at least 4 seconds before you start shooting at people in these surprise style shootings, and make sure you have reason to be doing so or else it will be considered powergaming and RDM.
If you are carrying any firearm beyond a pistol on your person, you must carry a bag on your back to represent having that firearm on you. If you do not have a bag on your back, you may not utilize the firearm.
If there is gunfire and you are not involved in it, do not run towards it. Use your head, you’re not going to run at a gunfight.
No criminal jobs are to be done within 30 minutes of an upcoming storm.
Drug selling, store robberies, houses, oxy runs, chop shop, boosts, banks, Bobcats, Vangellico’s etc.
Do not walk into ongoing scenes that do not involve you or your associates just to heckle cops.
Voice Identification While Masked - If someone is wearing a full mask and is masking their voice, you are to assume that you do not know the person. If you have heard the person do this voice previously, or no effort is being made to mask their voice, you may assume but not be positive that the person is who you are presuming them to be.
